How do I…
Get a new library card?
To get your free library card, bring one piece of identification that shows your name and address, to the front desk at either the Buckhorn or Cavendish branch. After you fill out a membership form, it’ll be processed immediately. You’ll be able to borrow books and other materials right away.
Renew my library card?
Library cards must be renewed every 2 years to help us meet the Ministry of Culture’s definition of active membership. It also helps us keep contact information up to date.
This may be done by:
- Presenting your library card at your local library branch
- Phoning your local library branch (be sure to have your library card # available)
In order to renew your library card any outstanding charges must be paid and all overdue and / or lost items must be paid for or returned.
Renew an item?
You can renew borrowed materials online, or by calling 705-657-3695. If a reserve has been placed on any of the materials you’ve borrowed, renewals are not allowed.
Request or hold an item?
You may place a hold:
- In person, at any branch
- On the phone, by calling your local branch in Buckhorn 705-657-3695, or in Cavendish 705-657-1192
- Online through the library catalogue
To place a hold on an item online through the library catalogue, click on the words “Place Hold” and enter your User ID (library card number) and PIN then select the most convenient branch for pick up and select Place Hold. We will telephone you to let you know when the item is available for you to pick up.
Request an inter-library loan?
To request material that isn’t in the Trent Lakes Public Library collection, fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request Form and present it at the front desk of either location.

Ask a librarian for help?
Staff at either branch will provide answers to basic questions, or direct you to appropriate resources.
Volunteer at the library?
The Library is always looking for interested volunteers. High school students may volunteer at their local library and apply the time towards their community hours.
The Good Buy Room
Attached to the library is a second-hand store called The Good Buy Room which raises money to support the library. It’s open year-round. We welcome donations of gently-used clothing.
The Trent Lakes Public Library is thrilled to have Kim Fernandes (children’s book author and illustrator) running a Storytime program for kids of all ages. It’s a fun-filled session of family-friendly stories and activities at the Buckhorn branch, held every Wednesday at 11:00 am.
Every summer Trent Lakes Public Library participates in the TD Summer Reading program. Contact your local branch for more details.
