The Good Buy Room
The Good Buy Room sells gently-used clothing for men, women, and children, as well as jewelry and miscellaneous house wares. It came into being in 1993, under the leadership of the late Tish Sowden.
Tish had already played a big part in raising funds for the expansion and renovation of the Buckhorn Library, and by the time these had been completed, Tish had sold her dress shop in Toronto and moved to her summer home in Buckhorn. When it was decided to continue fundraising for new books and other items for the library, a small shop was set up in the library basement to accept clean, good condition used clothing. The Good Buy Room was born!
With Tish lending her business expertise, a most successful organization evolved which is still going strong 20+ years later. The Good Buy Room is presently run very successfully by a committee of five hard-working volunteers aided by another twenty volunteers from both the Buckhorn and Cavendish communities. The proceeds are used to buy books and other items needed by both the Buckhorn branch and the Helen Bowen branch in Cavendish.
